Assessment of Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcome:
1. Reflectively integrate prior and new disciplinary knowledge with your internship practice.
Evidence that demonstrates the achievement of the learning outcome / Reason an outcome wasn’t achieved:
I believe this outcome was achieved. During the internship, we spent the majority of the first ten weeks using our computers, and using programs such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Outlook. I was taught many things on all programs by my peers and my superiors, which I will carry on with me through the rest of my professional career. Through having prior knowledge with these programs, to gaining quite a vast new knowledge through internship practice, it can be seen as both levels of knowledge being integrated, therefore checking off this learning outcome as being achieved.
Learning Outcome:
2. Develop and demonstrate a range of professional capabilities for professional practice.
Evidence that demonstrates the achievement of the learning outcome / Reason an outcome wasn’t achieved:
I believe this outcome was soundly achieved in a few different ways.
Over the course of the internship, through working for the first time in an office environment, I believe I gained a range of professional capabilities.
The first example of this would be gaining the knowledge of how to use professional protocol in writing emails to colleagues. At first I didn’t understand the protocol, but after learning the correct way to set out a professional email, I believe it’s a capability I can take with me into a future professional workplace setting.
Another example would be developing the skills to extract information from different sources, to compile and put together a presentation to deliver at a team meeting in front of fifty to sixty people. This is something I couldn’t see myself doing before I started this internship, but during my time at GOLDOC I gained the skills to do exactly this. I put together a presentation and delivered it to a venue meeting full of members from all functional areas.
This is a professional capability that I believe will assist me going forth in my professional career.
Learning Outcome:
3. Examine and articulate personal and professional value commitments that inform ethical professional practice in local and global contexts.
Evidence that demonstrates the achievement of the learning outcome / Reason an outcome wasn’t achieved:
I believe this outcome was achieved, through examining and articulating the motto of GOLDOC, which was GREAT. (Global, Respect, Excellence, Accountability and Trust).
Through embracing these key words and the values they stood for, i was able to successfully integrate them not only into my professional life at GOLDOC but also my personal life.
I believe Respect is a major value, and i learnt that when you show respect to a colleague or a superior situated overseas in the professional world, or even a spectator at the games in a more local context, you will receive respect back.
When embracing the value of excellence, i learnt that whether its showing up early to the office to deliver the best possible work you can for an excellent result, or whether its putting in a team effort during the games to deliver the best possible Commonwealth Games that will be congratulated and agreed as excellent around the world, both require the same value. The value of excellence can be integrated into any level of life. These two examples prove that in either a local or global context, the value can be an ethical practice.
I believe moving forward into my future professional career i will be able to continue to attain an ethical professional practice in both local and global contexts.
